Jeff Brown is a multifaceted musician, making his mark as a key figure in the dynamic world of Christian rock. Born and raised in Oil City, Pennsylvania, Jeff's journey into the realm of music began long before he took the stage as the keyboardist and vocalist of the electrifying Christian rock band, defiant Buffalo. With over 30 years of wedded bliss, Jeff's devotion extends beyond the music scene as he shares his life with his beloved wife, Carol. Together, they have been blessed with a son, now 22 years old, who has grown up surrounded by the harmonious melodies of their lives. In the heart of Oil City, Jeff dons yet another hat as a dedicated middle school music and chorus teacher, molding the musical talents of the next generation. He is passionate about nurturing young voices and talents, guiding them towards their own musical destinies. Jeff's commitment to his faith is unwavering, as he's an active member of the Oil City Community Alliance Church. Within the church community, he has dedicated his time and talents in various capacities, enhancing the spiritual journey of his fellow parishioners. Inspired by a diverse range of artists, Jeff's musical influences span both the Christian and secular spheres. His love for Christian music is evident in his admiration for luminaries like Crowder, MercyMe, Casting Crowns, and Lincoln Brewster. Yet, his eclectic tastes also embrace the secular sounds of John Mayer, Train, Rush, Led Zeppelin, and Billy Joel, showcasing the rich tapestry of his musical appreciation. The defining chapter of Jeff's musical journey lies with defiant Buffalo, where his keyboard skills, vocals, and songwriting skills shine. This Christian rock band has been a beacon of creativity and a platform for sharing their collective talents. The camaraderie of these three talented musicians and the joy of playing for an audience is a blessing that Jeff holds close to his heart, one that words can scarcely capture.
Ron Schwab, the heartbeat of defiant Buffalo, has a life story that's deeply intertwined with music, faith, and family. Born into a musical household, Ron's earliest memories are a harmonious blend of melodies and love. Family and Church gatherings always included music and instruments. Ron's connection to music and family extends to his children. He gifted one of them a bass guitar and amp, a moment forever etched in his heart. It was the best gift ever, and the start of a new chapter in his life. Ron picked up his son’s bass and fell in love with it. That joy found its perfect outlet in defiant Buffalo, where writing, creating, and performing Christian Rock is not just a passion but an energizing experience. The band's unity in faith and music is a blessing that defies explanation. Ron's musical taste is as eclectic as his journey. Influenced by the likes of Peter, Paul and Mary, the Statler Brothers, and Johnny Cash from his mom, he delved into the sounds of Bread, ZZ Top, and more from the '70s through an older brother. The '80s, with its rock revolution, was Ron's era, shaping his musical identity. Supportive and loving, Ron's amazing wife and the rest of his family stand beside Defiant Buffalo, providing the encouragement that fuels his journey. The future for this band shines brilliantly, a testament to their unwavering faith, love for music, and the unique blend of influences that make them who they are.
Jim Welch grew up just outside the town of Oil City Pennsylvania and has been playing guitar in one style or another over the years. Early on, he was encouraged by an uncle, who ran sound for a local rock band, to learn the guitar. After a short break from guitar to try drums in Jr High School, his interest reverted back to guitar. Joining the Navy and moving to California, he formed a small-time band called Farallon. After the navy he was a member of several different Christian Praise and Worship groups and prior to defiant Buffalo, was the lead guitarist for a Christian cover band called End Game. After a shift in the musical direction of the band, defiant Buffalo was formed and quickly began the journey of creating the first album. His musical influences come from various headline Christian rock bands and are evident in his style. Christian bands and artists such as Petra, Whiteheart, The Brave, Whitecross, Rez Band, Daniel Band, David Zaffiro, Michael Sweet and Lincoln Brewster greatly influence his guitar style. He is very excited to be a part of defiant Buffalo as the band launched out into writing their own music and working on their first album. After several years of waiting and dreaming, defiant Buffalo has become reality for Jim. And all along this journey, he has been supported by his loving wife of 20 years and his family. It is a blessing to be able to blend the artistic element with a real spiritual purpose. Through creating their own music, he is committed with the band to bring uniqueness and creativity into the music, as well as a message of unwavering commitment to Christ and his Word.
